The °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê×ÊÁÏ¿â Davis Humanities Institute announced a free workshop, From Dissertation to Manuscript, especially for faculty and students planning to publish their research and who may need help navigating the publishing world.
At the time of the announcement, the workshop leader, Gisela de la Concepción Fosado, was an editor at Duke University Press. Now she is the editorial director, selected after a nationwide search, according to a .
The °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê×ÊÁÏ¿â Davis workshop is scheduled from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, March 17, in 126 .
Organizers said Fosado will discuss such topics as shaping projects to broaden their readership, finding the right editor and press, understanding an editor's role, understanding the peer review process, and helping to make books successful once they are published.
Since joining Duke University Press in 2010, Fosado acquitted books in a wide range of areas in the humanities and social sciences, including anthropology, sociology, American and Atlantic World history, gender and sexuality studies, race and ethnicity, African American and Africana studies, environmental studies, and Latin American and Latinx Studies.
Her acquisitions included both award-winning monographs and bestselling general interest titles, as she worked with many prominent authors including Patricia Hill Collins, Renato Rosaldo, Arturo Escobar, Marisol de la Cadena, Walter Mignolo, Catherine Walsh, Enrique Dussel, Boaventura de Sousa Santos, Barbara Weinstein, Gilbert M. Joseph, Laurent Dubois, Charles E. Cobb Jr., Margaret Randall, Lynn Stephen, Joanne Rappaport, and Ruth Behar. She also published posthumous books by Gloria Anzaldúa and C.L.R. James.
The workshop is co-sponsored by the departments of English, Spanish and Portuguese, and Anthropology; Science and Technology Studies; and Hemispheric Institute on the Americas.
