People who have previously been infected with or vaccinated against flu may have some protection, but this depends on how well their immune system’s “memory” of the previous virus or vaccine cross-reacts with the new variant. At present, there is no good way to measure this. A new NIH-funded project by researchers at the University of California, Davis and Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health aims to solve that problem with a new device to measure this immune system “memory” in the blood.
December 04, 2024 - 4:16pm Andy Fell /news/chip-measure-immunity ϲϿ Davis Researchers Awarded $28M to Combat Rift Valley Fever /health/news/uc-davis-researchers-awarded-28m-combat-rift-valley-fever
Researchers at the University of California, Davis, One Health Institute, or OHI, have been awarded $28 million to lead a novel human vaccine trial against Rift Valley fever virus in Africa.

The project, funded by the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations, or CEPI, and the European Union’s Horizon Europe program, aims to work with partners in African countries affected by the virus to assess the safety and immune response of the vaccine in people most at risk.
September 14, 2023 - 8:00am Emily C Dooley /health/news/uc-davis-researchers-awarded-28m-combat-rift-valley-fever Resident T-Cells Key to Salmonella Immunity /blog/resident-t-cells-key-salmonella-immunity
Salmonella infections cause about a million deaths a year worldwide, and there is an urgent need for better vaccines for both typhoid fever and non-typhoidal Salmonella disease.
