The University of California, Davis, continues to be honored as one of the nation’s, and the world’s, leading universities. In results released today in the , °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê×ÊÁÏ¿â Davis comes in at No. 100 (four-way tie), up 18 spots from the previous year, among more than 1,000 universities ranked around the world.
Among U.S. universities, °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê×ÊÁÏ¿â Davis ranked 31st overall and 13th among public universities, in a tie with Purdue University in Indiana (also ranked 100th worldwide).
Quacquarelli Symonds, or QS, widely considered to be one of the most influential international rankings providers, uses a number of factors, including academic and employer reputation, student-to-faculty ratio, and the number of citations per faculty member (assessing research impact) to arrive at each university’s ranking. This process included analyzing more than 97 million citations from more than 14 million papers as well as 126,000 survey responses from academics and employers. QS considered more than 4,000 schools before ranking 1,000 of them in this year’s survey. In all, 85 countries are represented in this year’s survey.
In February, QS ranked universities globally in 48 disciplines in its annual World University Rankings by Subject, and °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê×ÊÁÏ¿â Davis ranked in the top 50 in numerous disciplines examined including No. 1 in veterinary science and No. 2 in agriculture and forestry. Other top placements for subjects ranked this year included environmental science (13th), anatomy and physiology (26th), biological sciences (29th), earth and marine sciences (tied for 29th) and developmental studies (31st).
°ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê×ÊÁÏ¿â Davis on a roll
Last week the university placed 47th in the Times Higher Education World Reputation Rankings, up from 49th, among the top 100 global university brands, based on its opinion survey of senior academics. Meanwhile, the Center for World University Rankings examined 18,000 universities worldwide and ranked °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê×ÊÁÏ¿â Davis 42nd among its peers globally. Among U.S. schools, °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê×ÊÁÏ¿â Davis was ranked 28th among all universities, and 13th among public institutions.
Elsewhere in 2018, U.S. News & World Report’s 2019 Best Graduate School rankings featured several top 20 placements, including seventh for biological/agricultural engineering and 10th for the School of Medicine’s primary care programs.
