�������ϲ����Ͽ� Davis executives recently announced the appointments of Walter Robinson to lead Undergraduate Admissions and Cindy Kiel as executive associate vice chancellor in the Office of Research.

Robinson, who is coming here from �������ϲ����Ͽ� Berkeley and is due to start Sept. 6, will be �������ϲ����Ͽ� Davis’ first director of Undergraduate Admissions to hold the title of assistant vice chancellor.

Associate Vice Chancellor Lora Jo Bossio, who announced Robinson’s appointment, explained that the title change reflects expanded responsibilities, including a closer working relationship between Undergraduate Admissions and the provost’s office on student recruitment.

Bossio, who leads Enrollment Management, Wellness and Technology Services in Student Affairs, has been serving as interim director of Undergraduate Admissions since January. She succeeded Frank Wada, the university registrar whose portfolio had grown to include Undergraduate Admissions.

Robinson is assistant vice chancellor and director of Undergraduate Admissions at Berkeley, where he has worked since 2005. Before that he worked in admissions at the University of Florida, where he coordinated and supervised minority recruitment programs.

Earlier, he served as associate director of the University Student Union and led affirmative action-human relations efforts at California State University, Fresno.

In an Aug. 6 e-mail, Bossio said: “Despite the current challenging fiscal climate, Walter believes it is possible to move toward academic excellence and global impact, while remaining accessible to the broadest cross-section of the California demographic. His dedication to students and desire to move institutions forward keeps Walter engaged in the world and art of admissions.”

Vice Chancellor Harris A. Lewin announced Kiel’s appointment, saying she will oversee the broad area of Research Administration, including Sponsored Programs, Research Compliance and Integrity, and Institutional Review Board Administration, as well as centralized human resources, budget and finance, and information technology services for the university’s organized research units.

The executive associate vice chancellor’s post is new, established by Lewin after his arrival last spring. Stan Nosek, retired vice chancellor of the Office of Administration (now part of Administrative and Resource Management) has been filling the post on an interim basis.

In taking the post at �������ϲ����Ͽ� Davis effective Monday (Aug. 15), Kiel leaves her job as assistant vice chancellor for Research Services and executive director of the Research Office at Washington University, St. Louis, Mo.

“During her time at Washington University, and previously at the University of Nevada, Reno, Cindy has been responsible for managing and oversight of significant growth in research funding and sponsored projects at both these institutions,” Lewin said in a July 29 e-mail to the �������ϲ����Ͽ� Davis research community.

He noted that Kiel has 18 years of experience in supporting large-scale, multi-institutional and interdisciplinary research projects, and has an extensive background in statutory and regulatory policy development and procedures.

“And she has earned a reputation for building collaborative relationships between academia, government and industry,” Lewin said.

Kiel has served in various leadership roles in the Society of Research Administrators International, and is an active member of the Council on Governmental Relations and the National Association of Research Development Professionals.
