Mariano-Florentino Cuéllar, an associate justice of the California Supreme Court, will be the first guest speaker this commencement season — addressing the School of Law graduates on Friday.
Before he joined the state's highest court in January, Cuéllar had a distinguished career as a legal scholar specializing in administrative law, criminal law and public policy. He was a professor of law and director of the Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies at Stanford University.
Twelve other ceremonies are scheduled from May 21 to June 14. Guest speakers include:
- Barbara Natterson-Horowitz, School of Veterinary Medicine, May 21 — A professor of medicine and adjunct professor of ecology and evolutionary biology at ϲϿLA, she is co-director of the university's evolutionary medicine program and director of its Zoobiquity Research Initiative. She also serves as a member of the medical advisory board at the Los Angeles Zoo. She is co-author of Zoobiquity: The Astonishing Connection between Human and Animal Health and chairs an education program that fosters interdisciplinary discussions among physicians and veterinarians.
- Nadine Burke Harris, School of Medicine, May 30 — Founder and CEO of the Center for Youth Wellness in San Francisco, she has earned international recognition for her innovative approach to addressing adverse childhood experiences as risk factors for adult disease.
- Michael Kirst, School of Education, June 10 — He is president of California's State Board of Education, a professor emeritus of education and business administration at Stanford University and co-editor of Remaking College: The Changing Ecology of Higher Education.
- Christine A. Gulbranson, Graduate Studies, June 11 — She is founder and CEO of Christalis, a strategic advisory firm, and holds five degrees from ϲϿ Davis. She served as a judge on Discovery Channel’s reality show “The Big Brain Theory: Pure Genius.”
- Nancy E. Pfund, Graduate School of Management, June 13 — She champions investments with social, economic and environmental returns as founder and managing partner of DBL Investors, a San Francisco-based venture capital firm, and was among “The World’s Top 25 Eco-Innovators” named by Fortune magazine in 2014.

- May 21 — School of Veterinary Medicine at 4 p.m. at the Mondavi Center;
- May 30 — School of Medicine at 10 a.m. at the Mondavi Center;
- June 10 — School of Education at 4 p.m. at the Mondavi Center;
- June 11 — Graduate Studies at 4 p.m. in the Pavilion;
- June 12 — College of Biological Sciences at 9 a.m. in the Pavilion;
- June 12 — College of Engineering at 3 p.m. in the Pavilion;
- June 13 — College of Letters and Science at 9 a.m., 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. in the Pavilion;
- June 13 — Graduate School of Management at 10 a.m. at the Mondavi Center; and
- June 14 — College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences at 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. in the Pavilion.
Tickets required
Guests at the Graduate Studies commencement do not require tickets. The Graduate School of Management requires tickets for all guests. The other ceremonies require tickets for all guests except children under the age of two years. of each of the commencements will be available.

The numbers for degrees awarded will be available later in the year. In 2013-14, ϲϿ Davis conferred 8,695 degrees including 6,765 bachelor's, 836 master's, 505 doctoral and 589 professional degrees.
