SUMMER DIVERSIONS: Aggie Adventures and bike safety

Welcome to the travel edition of Summer Diversions, for people with dreams of winding their way around the world, and for youngsters who are wheeling their way around town.

• Aggie Adventures Travel Fair — 3-5 p.m. Saturday (Aug. 27), Buehler Alumni and Visitors Center. Free, with complimentary appetizers and wines (from Vintage Aggies winemakers).

The Cal Aggie Alumni Association sponsors Aggie Adventures, an annual program of travel opportunities that combine adventure, culture and education for alumni, family and friends of °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê×ÊÁÏ¿â Davis and the entire °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê×ÊÁÏ¿â community.

The program for the upcoming travel fair includes an exploration of the Aggie Adventures destinations for 2012, plus a presentation by award-winning nature photographer and writer Gerry Ellis, sharing stories of his travels to Borneo and Africa.

• Kids Bicycling Safety Event — 4-6 p.m. Saturday (Aug. 27), (and museum), Third and B streets, Davis. The and its manager, Robert St. Cyr, are assisting with this free event. David Takemoto-Weerts, coordinator of the , also is helping out.

The organizers said St. Cyr, a League of American Bicyclists-certified instructor, will present a video and lead a discussion on bicycling safety. The program also includes bicycle inspections, to be conducted by staff from the Bike Barn and other Davis bicycle shops.

The Davis Police Department's Bicycle Unit and are providing support, the organizers said.
