Occupational Health Services has new home, effective Sept. 6

Occupational Health Services will be at 501 Oak Ave. (at Russell Boulevard) through 5 p.m. Friday (Sept. 2), and that’s it.

Come Tuesday (Sept. 6), after the Labor Day weekend, the Davis campus’s employee medical clinic will open in its new location in the Cowell Building (the former Cowell Student Health Center). Clinic hours will remain the same: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesdays. The clinic is closed daily for lunch, from noon to 1 p.m., and on university holidays.

In moving Occupational Health Service to the Cowell Building, the university eliminates an off-campus lease and provides more space for the clinic, allowing it to bring some services together, "which will be much more convenient for our clients," said Jill Parker, associate vice chancellor for Safety Services.

For example, many preventive services, such as respirator fits, require first a medical clearance from the medical director, then a respirator fit from an Environmental Health and Safety specialist. In the past, this required two appointments at two different locations. At the new clinic location, the entire process can be completed in a single visit.

Similarly, the ergonomics lab will be relocated to the clinic so that ergonomic issues requiring a physical therapy consultation can be handled in a single visit.

The move is explained in detail , in a Safety Services article that also tells about a financial change whereby Occupational Health Services is now providing all preventive services at no charge to campus departments.

As originally posted, the Safety Services article stated that Occupational Health Services, in its new home, would keep the same telephone number. In fact, the number has changed to (530) 752-6051.
