Neighbors Night Out: Oct. 12

Faculty, staff and students who live in the Davis community are invited to join their neighbors for the ninth annual Davis Neighbors Night Out, Sunday, Oct. 12 鈥 and hopefully join the city in setting a Guinness World Record in a new category: for 鈥淢ost Neighborhood Potlucks on the Same Day.鈥

Davis Neighbors Night Out has registered more than 100 parties in each of the last five years, with a high of 146 in 2009.

鈥淒avis Neighbors Night Out is a celebration of our community,鈥 the organizers said. 鈥淭he event was initiated to encourage neighbors to get to know one another. We believe, connected neighborhoods make safer neighborhoods; residents look out for one another, if there is a connection. 鈥

The event is purposely held later in the year than National Night Out (in August), delayed until after the start of fall quarter when the majority of students are back from summer break and thus able to participate

鈥淲e believe that starting the academic year on a positive note will reduce the potential for misunderstandings or conflicts by opening lines of communication among all residents,鈥 the organizers said.
