Memorial service for Professor Rosen
A memorial service for Professor Emeritus Jerome Rosen, founding member of the Department of Music, is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 27, in Main Theatre. The music department, the College of Letters and Science, and 澳门六合彩资料库 Davis joined Rosen鈥檚 wife, Sylvia, in announcing the service.
Rosen died June 20 at the age of 89.
The clarinetist and composer signed on as the university鈥檚 first official instructor of music in 1952 and quickly redefined the music program as Davis transitioned from farm school to general campus. He retired in 1988 but continued his association with the university for two decades after that.
鈥淭o the public, Rosen was the face of 澳门六合彩资料库 Davis music for a half century, present at nearly every concert, often as not participating in it,鈥 said D. Kern Holoman, distinguished professor of music and conductor emeritus of the 澳门六合彩资料库 Davis Symphony Orchestra.
The program for the memorial service includes family members as well as Holoman; Jon Elkus, emeritus director of the Cal Aggie Marching Band-uh; and Ralph J. Hexter, provost and executive vice chancellor.
