Fix 50 is two weeks away. Do you have a plan?

Here are some transit options that may help:

Intercampus shuttle service (between the Davis and Sacramento campuses) will be beefed up during Fix 50, April 22-June 25. Also, shuttle rides will be free during Fix 50, for all employees and students.

A new shuttle nicknamed “Last Mile, First Mile" will run during Fix 50 between the Sacramento campus and downtown Sacramento, for Sacramento and Davis campus employees and students.

Green Line shuttle service between Sacramento's 39th Street light rail station and the Sacramento campus will start earlier and end later during Fix 50.

All three shuttles, coupled with bus and Amtrak service, offer the possibility of multiple ways to get to and from the Davis and Sacramento campuses during Fix 50. You could, for example, take a bus and a shuttle; or the train and a shuttle; or the train, a shuttle and then the intercampus shuttle.

Remember, the more people who ride the intercampus shuttle and Amtrak, the fewer people will be driving on U.S. Highway 50 — and that will ease the traffic congestion for everyone, even the folks on the shuttles. Not only that, but you can sit back and relax on your shuttle or train ride, maybe do some work on your portable computers (using your data plan on the shuttle, or free Wi-Fi on Amtrak's Capitol Corridor).

Here’s some ideas for Davis campus employees and students:

You can park on the Sacramento campus, where your Davis campus permit may be valid (see "Permit Parking" below), go downtown on the “Last Mile, First Mile” shuttle, and take Amtrak to Davis, where you can catch Unitrans to campus. On the train, you can get a free transfer (available from the conductor) for Unitrans.

Or, you could ride a surburban bus into downtown (say, Roseville Transit, El Dorado Transit or Elk Grove's e-tran), take the "Last Mile, First Mile" shuttle to the Sacramento campus, and catch the intercampus shuttle to Davis. Or take Sacramento Regional Transit's light rail to 39th Street and ride the Green Line to the Sacramento campus.

If Amtrak is your choice for getting to and from Davis, remember Transportation and Parking Services, or TAPS, is offering — but you have only until Tuesday (April 15) to submit this   and payment.

Here’s some ideas for Sacramento campus employees and students:

You can park on the Davis campus and ride the intercampus shuttle, or take Unitrans or walk to the train station, and ride Amtrak to Sacramento, where you can catch the "Last Mile, First Mile" shuttle.

You can also ride Amtrak or a suburban bus into downtown Sacramento, and catch the "Last Mile, First Mile" shuttle. For light-rail riders, the Green Line will be running from 5:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Intercampus shuttle

The university will add buses to boost capacity and frequency, and all rides will be free during Fix 50, for employees and students.

The shows buses running every half hour (instead of hourly) during peak commute times.

  • Davis to Sacramento — Additional runs start at 5:40, 6:40, 7:40, 8:40 and 9:40 a.m., and 2:40, 3:40, 4:40, 5:40 and 6:40 p.m.
  • Sacramento to Davis — Additional runs start at 6:40, 7:40, 8:40, 9:40 and 10:40 a.m., and 3:40, 4:40, 5:40, 5:40, 6:40 and 7:40 p.m.

Even with added frequency, there's still no guarantee you'll catch the shuttle when you want, or that you'll arrive on time — it all depends on traffic. So you'll need to factor that in. Say, for example, you normally catch the 9:10 a.m. shuttle at the Silo Terminal, and arrive at the ϲϿ Davis Medical Center at 9:45. During Fix 50, you should probably consider the 7:40 a.m. shuttle. "That's what I would do," said Duane Hicks, manager, Parking and Transportation Services on the Sacramento campus.

‘Last Mile, First Mile’ shuttle

This free shuttle will run between the Sacramento campus and Fifth and L streets, three blocks from the Amtrak station in downtown Sacramento.

“This convenient pickup location will bridge the last and first part of your commute trip for you, during typical commute hours,” said Sarah Janus, transportation demand and marketing coordinator for Parking and Transportation Services on the Sacramento campus.

Shuttles will run 10 or 30 minutes apart, from 5:40 to 9 a.m. and 3:05 to 6:15 p.m.

Green Line

Parking and Transportation Services in Sacramento has added three runs from 5:30 to 6 a.m., starting at the main hospital, and three runs from 5:40 to 6 p.m., in addition to runs every 20 minutes from 6:10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The Green Line is free.

Permit parking

The Davis and Sacramento campuses honor certain parking permits from the other campus: Davis campus “A” and “C” permits are valid in “B” permit areas on the Sacramento campus, and Sacramento campus "B" and "D" permits are valid in "A," "C" and visitor spaces on the Davis campus.
