The Robert and Margrit Mondavi Center for the Performing Arts at University of California, Davis, announced today (Nov. 18) the cancellation of its entire 2020-21 season, which had already been abbreviated and was scheduled to start in January.
The cancellation marks the first season of no live events in the center鈥檚 almost 20-year history. The center had already cut short its 2019-20 season when the coronavirus pandemic hit.
As the health crisis continues, national and international artists are canceling their tours and venues still face restrictions on indoor events.
鈥淲e have said repeatedly that we would return to presenting events only when it was safe to do so 鈥 clearly that time is not yet at hand,鈥 Executive Director Don Roth said.
鈥淏ut while our theaters will remain dark for the remainder of this season, we want you, our loyal public, to know that we are fully committed to returning to a season of live events in 2021-22,鈥 he said. 鈥淲e are in the process of putting together what we believe will be a remarkable Mondavi Center season, typical in its excellence and variety, and presented in a manner that keeps the health and safety of audience and artists at top of mind.鈥
Beginning today, the ticket office is contacting current subscribers and ticket holders to explain their options: returning their tickets, donate to the center, receive credits for future events or receive refunds.
Meanwhile, the Mondavi Center will continue to program virtual events through 2021. Upcoming events include:
- 鈥 Friday, Nov. 27, 7 p.m.
- 鈥 Saturday, Dec. 5, 7:30 p.m.
- 鈥 Friday-Sunday, Dec. 18-20 (times vary, check listing)
