The campus鈥檚 bowling lanes are back open after the installation of new pinsetter machines, and signups are now open for noon-hour staff bowling leagues.
The lanes were closed for about a month while the 1960s-era machines that keep the games going were replaced with brand-new models that will be more reliable for players and safer for student employees.
As a bonus, colorful lights were added running the length of the lanes and in the area where the pins sit.
鈥淭he lights are the thing with the biggest visual wow factor,鈥 said Janna Tolla, director of the Memorial Union.
. The leagues start the week of the 21st and run through the end of the quarter, with a break the week of Thanksgiving. Bowlers can sign up individually and be matched with others, or can join as three-person teams. Signup fee is $25 per person.
The lanes 鈥 and the rest of the Memorial Union Games Area, with billiards, board games and console gaming 鈥 are open from 10:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, and 10:30 a.m. to 1 a.m. Friday and Saturday.
Forthcoming leagues are planned for billiards and console gaming.
