Chancellor Gary S. May sent the following letter to the campus community today (April 10):
•â¶Ä¢â¶Ä¢
Dear °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê×ÊÁÏ¿â Davis community,
One of my highest priorities as °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê×ÊÁÏ¿â Davis chancellor is to cultivate and maintain a campus environment that is safe and welcoming for all members of our community, regardless of immigration status. With that in mind, I want you all to be informed of your rights and the steps to take in the event federal immigration agents come on campus to enforce the law.
If you learn that immigration agents are on campus or plan to be on campus for enforcement activities—or if you have any contact with an officer executing a federal immigration order—please immediately notify °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê×ÊÁÏ¿â Davis Chief Campus Counsel Michael Sweeney (mfsweeney@ucdavis.edu, 530-754-7111). This procedure does not apply to nonenforcement activities, such as when federal agents are on campus for recruitment or immigration visa processing.
If you are or may be subject to an immigration order or inquiry on campus, the (530-752-9538) is available as an information resource. Please know that the Center is prohibited from discussing or revealing to anyone your personal information, including immigration status, unless compelled by federal and state laws. The Center cannot provide legal advice but can help connect you to legal service providers. The Center also offers support and resources related to advocacy, financial aid and academic success for our undocumented community.
For more information about your legal rights, please consult with here at °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê×ÊÁÏ¿â Davis and read this pamphlet.
For a fuller explanation of °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê×ÊÁÏ¿â’s policies and procedures regarding undocumented members of our community, please see and related FAQs. Visit for the latest °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê×ÊÁÏ¿â-related developments on immigration.
Thank you for your attention to this important matter.
Gary S. May
