From Chancellor May: Reflecting Together

To the °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê×ÊÁÏ¿â Davis Community:

We all heal at our own pace. If there’s one thing we learned from the pandemic, it’s that coming together can help ease our burdens.

In recognition of our collective journey, we will come together on June 1 for the . This day is about creating space for our community to reflect, remember and reconnect.

We've all experienced our fair share of trials recently, and this past year has brought numerous challenges our way. I want you to know, first and foremost, that whatever you're feeling right now – it's okay. It's okay to grieve. It's okay to feel overwhelmed. It’s okay to feel joyful. It's okay to still be seeking answers and clarity.

I invite you to take part in this day by moving along the Davis Reflection Route, which connects serene trails along Lake Spafford to downtown Davis, and out to Sycamore Park. You can start and end at your convenience, and traverse as long as you feel the need to.

Between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., Reflection Points along the route will be staffed with compassionate individuals from various initiatives such as Health 34, Aggie Mental Health Ambassadors, °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê×ÊÁÏ¿â Davis Wellness Ambassadors, Yolo County Mental Health and city staff. They will be available to guide reflection activities, offer support and provide resources as needed.

I encourage you to add your voice to the day and participate in public art and express your personal messages of grief, connection and hope.

Please, mark your calendar for June 1, and consider sharing this Day of Reflection with your fellow community members. Let's acknowledge our shared pain, extend a hand of support, and move together on the path toward healing.

Thank you, and I hope to see you there, in whatever way you feel comfortable participating.
