Early Music Ensemble
A concert by the 16-singer Early Music Ensemble is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 5, with a program of vocal works by Byrd and Gibbons, and organ works by Gabrieli, Frescobaldi and others (with William Cooper, organist).
The vocal works:
- William Byrd (1540-1623) — "Mass for Four Voices"
- Byrd — Motets "Nunc dimittis" and "Ave verum corpus"
- Byrd — Anthems "Christ Rising Again," with Carole Hom and Hilary Hecht, sopranos
- Orlando Gibbons (1583-1625) — "Behold, Thou hast made my days," with Hilary Hecht, alto
Starting time is 7 p.m. at the Church of St. Martin, 640 Hawthorn Lane, Davis. Suggsted donations at the door: $12 adults, $6 students.
Our inclusive community
Theatre presentations are planned tonight (Oct. 28) and next week in °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê×ÊÁÏ¿â Davis' Building a More Inclusive Community campaign:
• (Un)Civil (Dis)Obedience — An original work documenting the Davis campus community’s response to the hate-based incidents of the 2009-10 academic year. 7 p.m. Oct. 28, Vanderhoef Studio Theatre, Mondavi Center for the Performing Arts. Admission is free; people planning to attend are asked to register in advance (click here), but you are invited to show up even without having signed up — and you will be admitted if space allows.
• Miracle in Rwanda — A one-woman show about Immaculée Ilibagiza’s survival in the Rwandan genocide. 3 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 3 (students only) 7 p.m. Thursday-Friday, Nov. 3-4, Vanderhoef Studio Theatre. Tickets required for the 7 o'clock performances.
Halloween costumes
For all your costume needs this Halloween, look no further than the Enchanted Cellar at the Department of Theatre and Dance.
Students, faculty, staff and community members may choose from dozens of detailed and whimsical costumes inspired by history, popular culture, fantasy, and more.
New offerings this year include Superman, Catwoman, Spectra from Watchmen, Captain America, Raggedy Anne and Andy, and a variety of costumes in larger sizes.
