The Arboretum and Public Garden opens its  for a plant sale from 3 to 6 p.m. this Thursday (April 20), rain or shine, for ϲϿ Davis affiliates only, in particular staff and faculty who might otherwise not have the opportunity to attend the nursery’s weekend sales.

“It’s been a couple years since we’ve opened our doors during the week,” said Taylor Lewis, nursery manager. “We’ve listened to your suggestions and want to accommodate the people that keep this university running.”

It’s worth checking out for those interested in creating or adding to their sustainable landscapes. The nursery comprises 43,560 square feet (one acre) full of low-water plants, perfect for our climate.

“Customers need to know that we grow almost everything we sell on site, thanks to the help of students and volunteers,” Lewis said. “What that means is that these plants are used to our regional climate conditions and they are used to the water.

“You’re not getting something that may go into shock after transplanting because it’s used to a climate-controlled greenhouse. When these plants get to their new homes, they will think they’re on vacation!”

If you’re a member of Friends of the ϲϿ Davis Arboretum and Public Garden, you’ll get 10 percent off your purchases, in addition to a variety of other benefits. If you’re not a member, consider joining and start saving this Thursday

Driving to the nursery? The closest parking lots are at the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital and at Putah Creek Lodge. Take Garrod Drive to get to both lots. All parking rules will be in effect, meaning you must have the right permit, or you must buy a daily pass.
