Course schedules tend to be more flexible during Summer Sessions. Major programs typically map out a four-year graduation plan that leaves your summer open, making it an ideal time to try something different or test possible career directions while still making progress toward your intended degree. Courses that tend to have long waitlists during the academic year are usually easier to access, too. Here are some ideas:

  • Are you interested in engineering but not sure you can do it? 鈥溾 (EAE 010, SS1) is one of the few engineering courses you can take as a non-major. A two-unit course, it can fit easily into your summer schedule.

Summer and other programs with multiple course offerings take you off campus. is an off-campus facility about 70 miles north of San Francisco in beautiful Bodega Bay, where students can spend one or both Summer Sessions studying coastal marine science. Language skills can lead to or support careers in the diplomatic corps, international business, dot coms, or the CIA, FBI or NSA. Summer Sessions offers 10-week language intensives that pack two quarters of instruction into one, giving the added bonus of immersion. Check out the .
