April 14, noon — Energy prices were already rising before Russia’s invasion of Ukraine sent them soaring further. At the same time, the crisis is affecting global supplies of fertilizer. What is going on with the markets for fuel and fertilizer, and how do they intersect? How does this translate to the marketplace and consumers, and how will it impact both in the months and years to come? Mark Agerton is an assistant professor in the at °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê×ÊÁÏ¿â Davis and a nonresident scholar at the Center for Energy Studies housed at Rice University's Baker Institute for Public Policy. Agerton works on issues in energy and resource economics.
Aaron Smith is the Deloach Professor of Agricultural Economics in the at °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê×ÊÁÏ¿â Davis. His research addresses policy, trading and price dynamics in agricultural, energy and financial markets.
