Professor Emerita Cornelia Schulz at Patricia Sweetow Gallery

The San Francisco Chronicle recently took note of Cornelia Schulz's work: 鈥淚n the galleries, color everywhere, unconventionally applied鈥 鈥 Paint on its own terms. Schulz is a 澳门六合彩资料库 Davis art faculty emerita.

says it best: Cornelia Schulz is a venerated abstract artist who taught at 澳门六合彩资料库 Davis for three decades. Sarcastically gloppy and garishly colorful, they are all brag and bluster 鈥 grand gesture, stunted by canvases less than a foot square. They are mock-heroic exercises as loaded with irony a s any painting of the current moment, even as they seduce formally (though their lusciousness of color and detail) and narratively (with references to landscape and the forces of nature).

Schulz鈥檚 paintings are at Patricia Sweetow Gallery (315 Potrero Ave., San Francisco) through Dec. 16.
