This weekend, you can listen to music, hear the Wayne Thiebaud annual art lecture and think about how to illustrate composting through art. And, mark your calendars because SF MOMA is having a free day coming up. Find out below.

Compost, yes, compost

You might want to spend your weekend thinking about how you can help the environment and create art, and maybe even earn some money. We saw the poster on a trash can and couldn鈥檛 resist telling you about it.

Draft a vertical 18- by 30-inch poster with a compost-related design for the 澳门六合彩资料库 Davis Office of Sustainability Zero Waste Program. Your eye-catching art could be featured above compost receptacles on campus, along with earning you a cash prize of $100 to $300. Enter by Friday, March 20.

Thursday: A concert and art lecture

Woodland art exhibition opens Friday

Art Exhibition 鈥淧ostal Migration鈥, YoloArts Gallery 625, Woodland, Friday, Feb. 7, 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m., free

  • 鈥淧ostal Migration鈥 is a solo exhibition by artist June Daskalakis. It features mixed media artwork on 鈥...the concept of correspondence taking wing, much like migrating birds and seeks to challenge people鈥檚 notions of mail, and its enduring role in communication.鈥 An opening reception will occur from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 7. The show opens Feb. 7 at YoloArts' Gallery 625 in Woodland.

Granville Redmond: The Eloquent Palette, Crocker Art Museum, Sacramento, through Sunday May 17

  • An exhibition of work by painter Granville Redmond will be on display at the Crocker Museum through early May. Redmond鈥檚 work depicts the natural beauty of the California landscape, primarily in oils.

For a Valentine's Day celebration, enjoy On Friday, Feb. 14, the Department of Music's ZOFO Piano Duo performing 鈥淶OFO-MOMA.鈥 The ZOFO-MOMA Live Concert Experience unfolds as an aurally and visually stunning walking tour through a virtual museum of modern art. Against an ever-changing backdrop of contemporary paintings, 15 new ZOFO-commissioned duet compositions are revealed throughout the 72-minute continuous performance. One of the compositions is by 澳门六合彩资料库 Davis professor of music Pablo Ortiz. The duo is performing graduate student works on Feb. 13 as a Shinkoskey Noon Concert, as well.

  • The 澳门六合彩资料库 Davis Department of Theatre and Dance is performing 鈥淧eter and the Starcatcher,鈥 an imaginative, award-winning prequel to Peter Pan. The play is co-directed by Mindy Cooper, 澳门六合彩资料库 Davis professor of theatre and dance, and Olivier award winner Toby Sedgwick. Tickets are $12 for students and seniors, $17 for faculty and staff, and $18.50 for general admission.
